Today I will tell you some things about the endangered animal the white rhino. These rhinos mostly live in the grassy plains of Africa. Once found in Southern Chad, the Central African Republic, Southwestern Sudan, Northern Democratic Republic of Congo and Northwestern Uganda. Also found in South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, and Kenya. Wow, thats a lot of places to live in! I wish I had that many habitats.
Did you know white and black rhinos are actually the color gray? Did you also know that they are the second largest mammals on land? I bet you didn’t know that! Male white rhinos can weigh up to 5,100 lbs, while females can weigh up to 3,700 lbs. The height of the male rhino is 5.6- 6.1 ft. and the female is 5.2- 5.8 ft. Its common name is white rhino. A synonym for it is square-lipped rhino. These animals also have no hair and only two horns. Did you know rhinos stay with their mothers until they are three years of age? White rhinos are certainly fascinating. White rhinos eat a lot. They eat mostly grass. They eat about 100 pounds of grass, hay, or alfalfa pellets a day. In addition, they eat dead leaves. If I ate that much, I wouldn’t eat tomorrow! To tell the truth, white rhinos don't have that many predators. They only have big cats such as lions as predators. They also are threatened by humans. There are only 3 northern white rhinos left. There are 20,000 southern white rhinos so there are more southern white rhinos than northern white rhinos because there are only 3 of the northern white rhinos. In conclusion white rhinos are endangered, and we need help to save them. Without them we wouldn’t have rhinos around. So to help save them would be so helpful. So Thank you for reading my report! |
