Giant Pandas Have you ever thought about that cute animal with that crazy long name Ailuropoda melanoleuca. That is what this text is about, Giant Pandas! In this article you will learn about the habitat, prey, threat, lifestyle, prey, and additional information about this outstanding creature.
Pandas are an endangered species. They are endangered because of habitat loss. People are also hunting them for their coats. Even though the threat to their survival is mostly habitat loss it is still pretty terrible that people are hunting them just for their coats. In china you could go to jail for twenty years for hunting giant pandas, but sadly some people decide to still do it. Another reason the giant panda is troubled is that global warming is slowly clearing out their bamboo and that is bad because they eat a lot of bamboo. There are about 1,600 pandas left in the wild and 300 of them are in zoos or breeding centers. Pandas need to eat a lot to survive. A Giant Panda's diet is mostly bamboo. A giant panda eats about 20 to 40 pounds of bamboo a day. Occasionally they eat small rodents or musk deer fawn. In zoos, Giant Pandas eat bamboo, sugar cane, rice gruel, a special high-fiber biscuit, carrots, apples, and sweet potatoes. Pandas have flat teeth for chewing and sharp teeth for biting into bamboo. A baby pandas diet is pretty different from a grown panda’s diet. Baby pandas are nursed by their mothers for the first eight to nine months of their life. They start eating solid foods, such as bamboo, when they reach 6 months of age. The giant Panda’s young are unbelievably cute, they are also fairly interesting. Did you know that a giant panda cub is about 90 to 130 grams when born? It is true, they grow so much over a lifetime. When they grow up they are 220 pounds! That means when they are little they are only 1/900th of their mother's weight. A panda can produce 2 baby pandas at a time. In a lifetime they can successfully have 5 to 8 babies Pandas have a very interesting habitat. In the wild, giant pandas are only found in the remote, mountainous regions of central China, in Sichuan, Shaanxi and Gansu provinces, according to the National Zoo. In this area, there are cool, wet bamboo forests that are perfect for the giant panda's needs. Giant pandas have very strange life styles. First giant pandas in fact do NOT hibernate. That may seem surprising to you but it is true, animals hibernate (go into a deep sleep) so they can survive throughout the cold season when the weather is freezing and the food is scarce. Giant pandas don't need to do hibernate because they eat a vast amount of food. A wild pandas spends most of its time resting, feeding, and searching for food. You should save giant pandas. First things first, in their habitat there is things like medicines and food that could help nearby towns by giving income. I think that the giant pandas will be saved because a lot of people like giant pandas and they make websites to help them and donate money to save the giant panda. Considering that the giant panda is endangered on the IUCN red list and they are not extinct in the wild that gives them a pretty good chance of survival. A giant panda is a very important animal and the very cruel things that people do to them are not anywhere near kind. As you can see Giant Pandas have the same right to be saved them any other animals if not more. Save the giant panda! |
