This is a summary about the Panthera tigris tigris also known as the Bengal Tiger. Did you know that there are more tigers in captivity than in the wild? I hope you will enjoy this summary.
The Bengal Tiger’s habitat is in many places. They are mostly found in India. With little found in China, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, and Myanmar. They live in Mangrove forests called Sundarbans which is between Bangladesh and India and the only mangrove forest where they are found. In 1970 people created tiger reserves and international ban on tiger trade in 1993 this helped the tigers but there are also a lot of other threats to them. The biggest threat to the Bengal Tiger is sea level rise because it is destroying their homes on Bangladesh. There also is a lot of poaching for food and decor of their fur. There is also loss of prey and climate change. There are only about 2,500 Bengals left in the wild. Their roar can be heard from 2 miles away. Also did you know that these tigers are 95.6% related to house cats. They are the largest cats in the wild and there used to be eight different tiger species at one time, but sadly three types became extinct during the 20th century. Bengals are nocturnal animals . They are mammals and can grow up to 5 to 6 feet long. They are carnivores and their lifespan is 8 to 10 years long. They can also weigh up to 240 and 500lbs. They have a lot of prey, but no predators except humans. Some of their bigger types of prey are deer, antelope, boar, moose, elephants, cows, horses, and rhinoceros calves. Also leopards, bears, and asiatic wild dogs. There is also smaller prey like monkeys, pigs, birds, and goats.
